WEBMETRICS LAUNCHES GLOBALWATCH SCRIPT RECORDER FOR RICH, INTERNET WEB TRANSACTIONS
Company Debuts Industry's Most Accurate Record and Playback Tool
for the Validation of Web 2.0 Transactions
San Diego - November 7, 2007 - Webmetrics, the leading provider of web performance monitoring solutions, today launched the GlobalWatch Script Recorder, the most accurate record and playback tool available for the testing and monitoring of rich, interactive web transactions. Built on Watir (Web Application Testing in Ruby) open source technology, the GlobalWatch Script Recorder captures and displays real-user interaction with a web application using an Internet Explorer 7 session. The GlobalWatch Script Recorder empowers developers, QA and web operations with increased control over the management of their scripts, and the ability to rapidly respond to application modifications.
“By delivering an open, standards-based script recorder, we are facilitating unprecedented interoperability between all script-driven technologies, as well as the various departments responsible for managing an application’s lifecycle,” says Peter Kirwan, Chief Strategy Officer for Webmetrics. “This is a significant advance for those delivering web apps, as it offers both increased flexibility over the creation and maintenance of their scripts, as well as the freedom to utilize them across virtually any testing or monitoring application. In addition, the Script Recorder greatly reduces our customer’s turnaround time when their monitored applications are modified or new versions are released.”
The GlobalWatch Script Recorder is an advanced record and playback tool, ideally suited for automated testing and verification of Web 2.0 and Rich Internet Applications. It allows users to record their navigation through a series of steps on any website to generate a simple, human readable, Watir-compatible script. Scripts interact directly with the IE browser and are played back locally to validate accuracy. Once validated, the script can then be utilized by Webmetrics GlobalWatch Monitoring Service to provide external performance data, or ported to other testing platforms implemented internally.
Leveraging the power of Watir, a Ruby-based programming language for automated testing purposes, the GlobalWatch Script Recorder generates scripts that can be leveraged by a variety of technologies, and internal test and validation applications. Departmental uses for the GlobalWatch Script Recorder include:
- Web Operations: Performance monitoring and SLA management
- Release Management: Version control and verification of releases, backwards compatibility testing
- Quality Assurance: System, release and regression testing
- Product Development: Design and specification
- Development: Unit tests and verification of bugs
- Customer Service: Review and share customer recorded experiences to provide hands-on approach to technical support and problem resolution
The GlobalWatch Script Recorder is now available to the general public free of charge. The Windows-based download is currently a beta version and available at http://www.webmetrics.com/scriptrecorder.html.
