WEBMETRICS REPORTS AMAZON S3 EXCEEDS 99.99 PERCENT UPTIME FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER

Online Storage Service Meets Recently Introduced SLA

San Diego - November 2, 2007 - Webmetrics, the leading provider of web performance monitoring solutions, announced today that Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) has maintained 99.99 percent uptime for the month of October.  Using its GlobalWatch Monitoring platform, Webmetrics has monitored the response times and availability for the REST- and SOAP-based APIs for Amazon S3, which have achieved a monthly uptime percentage of 99.9915 and 99.9912, respectively.  By testing web service availability from its global, independent monitoring network, Webmetrics validates that Amazon S3 has met its newly introduced SLA for the month of October.

Amazon S3 is a fast, scalable and inexpensive data storage solution for developers, with more than five billion objects currently under management. Starting October 1st, Amazon introduced a new SLA for S3 guaranteeing users 99.9 percent service uptime.  If uptime is less than 99 percent, customers can apply for a service credit of 25 percent of their total S3 charges for the month.  If the uptime is 99 percent but less than 99.9 percent, customers can apply for a service credit of 10 percent of their monthly charges.

Amazon S3 APIs were tested every five minutes from Webmetrics GlobalWatch Network from October 1st through October 31st, with timeout thresholds defined at 30 seconds.  Both web services maintained monthly performance levels in accordance with the Amazon S3 SLA.  October performance results for each API are as follows:

Web Service

Average Uptime

Average Response Time

Amazon S3 REST API

99.9915%

1.63 sec

Amazon S3 SOAP API

99.9912%

1.55 sec

Webmetrics’ GlobalWatch for Ecosystems provides subscribers with real-time access to performance monitoring data and alerting for the most commonly used vendor APIs.  These monitoring services help developers and businesses simplify the management of vendor-managed web services by measuring their response times externally, and in relation to defined performance objectives or SLAs.  They also provide instant notification to users should web services fail to respond, or if response times exceed defined performance thresholds.

GlobalWatch for Ecosystems is now available for all Amazon Web Services, including Amazon S3, on a subscription basis.  Additionally, recent performance of Amazon Web Services (E-commerce, EC2, Mechanical Turk) is available for free at www.webmetrics.com/widgetdir_amazon.html.
