WEBMETRICS UNVEILS PERFORMANCE MONITORING FOR WEB SERVICES
GlobalWatch Monitoring for Web Services Supports REST and SOAP API Calls
San Diego, CA - August 6, 2007 – Webmetrics, a leading provider of collaborative monitoring solutions for enterprise web ecosystems, today announced the availability of GlobalWatch Monitoring for Web Services, a new SaaS (Software as a Service) which validates the uptime, speed and delivery of discreet Web Services or complex web service transactions. With support for REST- and SOAP-based requests, GlobalWatch allows companies to monitor Web Services that leverage internal and/or partner-driven data and applications – ensuring a positive end-user experience and seamless fulfillment of cross-site transactions.
“Companies that extend their internal processes to the public and / or their partner network through Web Services cannot accurately validate their availability and response with traditional browser-based monitoring methods,” says Peter Kirwan, Chief Strategy Officer at Webmetrics. “Web Services monitoring simulates back-end interaction between interconnected but disparate software, and verifies its generated results. As applications migrate to more service-oriented architectures and APIs become increasingly mission-critical, GlobalWatch Monitoring will support the unique performance management needs of both Web Service producers and consumers.”
A Web Service is a method that allows software to interact with other software. SaaS, componentization, mashups and complex interconnected supply chains are just a few examples of how companies are further leveraging the power of Web Services – customizing a single process or application for multiple and diverse business-critical implementations. When tying into third-party services, GlobalWatch Monitoring tests the interaction between services and can pinpoint performance issues down to the API level. This visibility is critical when business processes rely on Web Service availability – as it supports quicker problem resolution and eliminates the consequences of downtime.
GlobalWatch Monitoring supports the following Web Service types:
-
SOAP – Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) is a standard-based approach to Web Services, maintained by the W3C. SOAP Web Services are defined by a WSDL (Web Services Description Language), which contains all the information needed to generate a properly formatted request and defines exactly what the format of the response
will be.
-
REST – Representational State Transfer (REST) services allow web service owners to define unique request and response specifications.
-
HTML/TEXT - Capable of monitoring Web Services that do not return an XML response, but rather plain text or HTML. Offers support for monitoring applications that do not conform to the “definition” of standard Web Services, in that they do not use XML to exchange information.
